Sammy is inspired by the critically endangered Australian Swift Parrot. These bright little birds breed in Tasmania and migrate to the mainland in winter, and their vivid plumage is full of life and joy.

I painted a pair of Swift Parrots, because I love that they have company, and set them against a soft peach background to balance their colours. Created with thick oil paint and palette knives, this piece is rich in texture, from the lively feathers to the layered backdrop. Sammy is a vibrant reminder of the beauty, and fragility, of Australia’s unique wildlife.
