Chortle by Cassie Holmes

This piece is part of my recent challenge to paint 29 birds in 29 days. I painted Australian birds, using the top 10 Australian birds of 2023 to kick off the challenge. The Laughing Kookaburra came in at number four.

I painted a pair of each bird, and this one is the quieter of the two, enjoying watching his friend have a good chuckle. I have named them both after synonyms for laugh, because it seems fitting to me and of course, we all need a good laugh throughout our day.

Chortle is a happy little kookaburra and the painting is full of luscious texture and thick oil paint to create beautiful feathers. I use palette knives to create the texture, including adding it in the background of my pieces. The background colour just matches this little guy beautifully.

This piece is on a 20cm x 20cm cradled wood panel, which is 3.8cm wide, allowing you to stand it up on a shelf. It also comes with wire ready to hang. It is unframed but the sides will be painted. This piece will look lovely hanging on the wall, particularly with its partner, or standing on a shelf or bench.

Postage within Australia is free with this piece.

Thank you.
